Down the Mysterly River by Bill Willingham
Chapter One: Wolves and Badgers and Thrilling Boy Detective Stories
So I practically jizzed my pants last night when this happened. One of my favorite comic book authors actually responded to me.
Thanks Bill Willingham, for taking the time to respond to a fan. Now if I could only get Neil Gaiman to do the same.
Purchased Fables #103 today. Loved it, but of course, being something written by Bill Willingham, the content was all setup for something epic that will not happen for most likely another two issues.
Joao Ruas did an amazing cover (nod to the golden age of comics), though I suppose he’s grown quite sick of the superhero “theme” as of late.
SPOILER ALERT***
The cover of issue #105 is an homage to “Death of Superman” comic, using the images of Snow and Bigby.
Fables issue #102: The Next Big Plan, Chapter One of The Super Team
Bill Willingham steps away from Bufkin’s journey in Oz (or EV as he put it) and focuses on the Fables of Haven. Mister Dark is forcing himself on the border of Haven and Flycatcher’s powers cannot hold it off for long. A group of the fables unite and form a “super” plan of attack that we are all hoping will work out in the end like most super plans do.
AND SO…
I was so excited this finally came out this week. However, that being said I always forget that I get “hella butthurt” by the fact that I only have 8 new pages (the remaining 4 are designated for a preview of a completely different comic by Vertigo) of information per month.
As Fables readers know, Bill Willingham likes to mix it up in the comics by continuously changing the storyline back and forth between multiple events, which is smart, because it keeps us wanting more, and also very frustrating because the single issues are usually setting the readers up and preparing them for what’s to come.
So when I read Fables single issues I normally end up shouting “but WTF is happening with Bufkin?!” or “What?! That’s it?!”
I’m never completely upset by my frustration, because deep down I love every second and I only want to read more.
Remember:
No matter how
you mutter or pout,
up is the only way
to out.
Keep going
though you tire,
though the way is
perilous and dire.
Through wind and
rain and fire,
keep going up
and ever higher.
